Who we are

The Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice is as an intergenerational initiative conceptualized to share, learn and network on disruptive ideas that are needed to catalyze economy-wide transformation in a climate-catastrophic world.

The school offers tailor made course modules developed and offered by outstanding eminent scholars, experts, researchers and community scholars and activists from both the South and North as well as by Africa’s leading Climate Justice strategists and activists.

It is designed to provide a timely opportunity for long-standing scholar-activists, community-based scholars and the younger generation of climate justice advocates as well as practitioners from the Global South and North. The school adopts a society-wide focus, targeting sectoral and thematic experts and frontline activists irrespective of formal education and cultural backgrounds. The school has secured its leading role in setting Africa’s climate policy discourse and intervention strategy courtesy of its growing and influential Alumni network of vibrant climate specialists

The Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice has successfully delivered three Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice Cohorts (Cohort I -2021, Cohort III -2022 and Cohort – III 2023), it has so far trained over 1000 participants drawn from the Global South regions including Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Caribbean, who are not enough, considering Africa’s current population and the critical mass we would like to build.

The inaugural Nairobi summer School on Climate Justice was held on 30th August – 11 September 2021, the second cohort was held from June 26 to July 10, 2022, the third cohort on from July 3 to July 14, 2023 in Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya
