Jiata Ekele, is a professional from Nigeria, serving in a double Capacity; Knowledge Management and Extension Assistant at CSDevNet (Climate and Sustainable Development Network).
She is one of hundreds of Nairobi Summer school Alumni who earned knowledge – on climate justice two years ago.
The core idea of her work is basically confined within the activities including environmental Conservation Campaigns, Community programme Interventions and projects that shape public discourse on the climate crisis in a responsible manner that enable people to act and shape the green hence facilitates a sustainable future for them. Just to mention, she acted as a precursor of NSSCJ programme by championing for digital climate campaigns during her membership at Young Digital Activist (YDA) group in Nigeria. In the same affiliation, she managed to carry out sensitization advocacy through creative content writing and storytelling across all her social media handles daily not forgetting her effort of speaking to webinars monthly.
“After Nairobi Summer school the acquired aided me in understanding climate change advocacy and other correlative subjects such as the origin and trends of climate justice, climate finance tool kits, social media campaign strategy and good networking skills”, says Jiata.
Jiata says she gradually changed the wrong stereotypes about unsustainable ways of living within youths in her community especially the one around deforestation practices.
One of her activities that was actually conspicuous was her involvement with Pakit Foundation School through the climate Leadership Fellowship programme back in 2022.She empowered 104 students on climate change with innovative toolkits and built a community of young climate actors by establishing an environmental club.
